Action for a Better Community: Volunteers Needed

Action for a Better Community will be welcoming over 400 Christian youth into the Rochester area. They will be coming from around the United States to participate in a home repair mission camp, helping repair and paint dozens of homes of elderly and disabled homeowners with low incomes. They will be here from Sunday, July 8 through Friday, July 13.  Action for a Better Community needs dozens of ladders to help paint the homes- from 6 foot step ladders to 28 foot extension ladders.  Please call them at 325-7550 if you can lend them a ladder or two for that week.

They are also looking for some volunteers to helps with:

  • ·Hospitality – People to help welcome the students on Sunday and help them feel appreciated during the week.
  • ·Project Advisors – People to work with the Materials Manager to oversee the work being done at the sites. They will travel to a variety of sites, Monday – Friday to answer questions and provide advice/guidance on how to best complete the work (mostly porch repair and painting).
  • ·Set up crew – The week before, Monday, July 2 – Friday, July 6 people are needed to assist with taking inventory of materials and supplies at the various worksites.

Roc Transit Day – June 21

Reconnect Rochester is giving away 1,000 all-day bus passes good for FREE rides all day on June 21.  In addition, there will be prize giveaways to random ROC Transit Day riders as well as a happy hour at the downtown Radisson at the conclusion of the workday.

Their goal is simple: To increase awareness of the resource embodied in our public transit system.  The challenge is to get drivers to leave their cars at home and try the bus.

Reconnect Rochester has given me some bus passes for those ABC Streets Members who are willing to leave their cars at home on June 21 and take the bus to work.  Contact me at abc.streets@gmail.com and I’ll give you a bus pass.
